Swimming Season Finale Swimming Season Finale

The Swimming Club season finished with two galas. The first involved those swimmers learning to swim. This gave them the opportunity to show off their skills to parents and friends. It also gave them a taste of swimming competively against their peers, with the honour of standing on the podium with trophy and gold, silver or bronze medal, and of course, accepting thunderous applause from the onlookers! The older swimmers demonstrated their skills in the ‘Beat the Coach’ competition, swimming against the Open Gala Coach- Stuart Barker. Well done to Chris Best, who retained this title.

The second gala involved team swimmers, who moved up into the category where they will be swimming in the next season, challenging their new found peers. For the younger swimmers it was their first experience of the individual medley, which involved swimming 4 lengths , each of a different stroke, under sprint conditions. All managed admirably- encouraged onwards by officials parents and older swimmers.

The winners of the various strokes in their categories were as follows: (see attachments) Special mention to swimmers who broke club records- Connor Purdy, in the breastroke and the butterfly, Claire O’Neill in the girls individual medley and Chris Best in the individual medley and the dash.

Most improved swimmer for Boys –Chris Best
