Code of Conduct for Club Officials


"Club Officials" includes Committee Members Coaches, Teachers, Assistant Teachers, Poolside Volunteers and other volunteers involved with the Club.

Ballymena Amateur Swimming Club’s aim is to teach children and young people to swim in a safe and secure environment. To do this we ask all officials of the Club to read and sign the points of good practice below.

1. Officials will treat swimmers and their parents with respect at all times. Use of socially inappropriate language is not acceptable.

2. Officials will recognise the potential in each swimmer and work to maximise this.

3. Officials will listen to any concerns raised by a swimmer and deal with it appropriately.

4. Officials will ensure that parents and swimmers receive relevant information as soon as it is available.

5. Confidential information will be held in a secure environment and in keeping with the Data Protection Act.

6. Officials will not have physical contact with a child except for teaching purposes in view of other adults and in case of an emergency.

7. Officials will adhere to the Child Protection Policy at all times.

8. Officials will gain written consent from parents for a photography which will include their child.

9. Officials will gain written consent before transporting any child to and from galas or Club trips away from the leisure centre.

10. Officials will not give support to any child in the changing area except in case of an emergency and with another adult being present.

11. Officials will ensure the appropriate ratio of officials to children at all Club activities.

12. All officials will attend Child Protection training.

13. All officials in contact with children will undergo POCVA checks.

14. All officials will produce relevant certificate as proof of qualification.

15. Officials will be expected to be appropriately dressed and competent to undertake their responsibilities.

16. Officials should not enter the water with a child or young person except in case of an emergency.
